Michael Peña has been one of the most lovable aspects of both installments in Marvel’s Ant-Man franchise as the titular hero’s partner-in-crime Luis and while details of the third installment are currently under wraps, the 44-year-old star confirmed to ComingSoon.net that while he hasn’t been asked back yet, he’s more than game to return to the series.

While promoting the upcoming Blumhouse reimagining of the classic series Fantasy Island, in which he portrays the role of Mr. Roarke, Peña told us that he has “no idea” if fans can expect to see him return as the fast-talking ex-con-turned-security-consultant, but assured that’s not bad news.
For the last one, I didn’t really know what capacity I was going to come back in or if I was going to come back. I think they’re a year away from filming, I think it would be great if I could do a third one. But you never know, especially with all the stuff that happened in Endgame. Right now, Marvel’s in a situation where they can crush some expectations, they’re gonna have to crush some expectations of other characters, not just mine, so hopefully I make the cut.
The actor mentioning the supposed filming start seems to align with comments made by other franchise star Michael Douglas (The Kominsky Method), who revealed in November that plans are to begin production in January 2021. Should the third film indeed go into production in 2021, the film could arrive on one of the three already announced Marvel Studios release dates including February 18, 2022, May 6, 2022, or July 29, 2022. The first two Ant-Man films were both release in the month of July. So if the studio continues with its tradition, it would be possible that the next film might take the scheduled July 29, 2022 release date.

Presumably both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will reprise their respective roles as Ant-Man and the Wasp. The pair recently lent their voices to the Avengers: Damage Control VR experience. Both characters were also a part of Avengers: Endgame, although Rudd’s Scott Lang had the bigger role. That film notably introduced Emma Fuhrmann as Scott’s now-teenage daughter, Cassie Lang.
In the comics, Cassie eventually gained size-changing powers of her own and took on the codenames Stature and Stinger. But if Reed wants to keep the film series’ naming motif, we would suggest Ant-Man, the Wasp and Giant-Girl as the title.
