Warner Bros. is moving up the digital release date for Destin Daniel Cretton’s Michael B. Jordan-led drama Just Mercy. The film will now be available from digital retailers beginning today, March 17, and will be available on Video on Demand beginning March 24. You can order your copy here!
Cretton, who is also directing the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was recently advised to self-isolate by a doctor but has officially tested negative for coronavirus, according to Deadline. The filmmaker shared a message with fans:
“During my weekend of isolation away from my family, I had a lot of time to ponder this interesting moment in history that our second child was born into, a time full of opinions and division, where scientific truths are debated and brushed off as political spins. But in the midst of this storm, while staring up at a spot on my hotel ceiling that I swear looked exactly like a bunny, I could see something really quite beautiful happening. People all around the world are beginning to realize how connected we are, how vulnerable we are, how much we need each other to survive.”
He added: “Please stay hopeful, please stay humble, please stay home. Social distancing is an act of love for yourself, your family, and for every person on this planet.”

Just Mercy is based on Bryan Stevenson’s best-selling memoir of the same name. The story follows world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Stevenson (Jordan) as he recounts his experiences and details the case of a condemned death row prisoner whom he fought to free. The true story is one of redemption, passion, and mercy set against a backdrop of a corrupt judicial system which favors the death penalty and targets the poor.
Along with Jordan, the film stars Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, and Tim Blake Nelson, and is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), who previously worked with Larson on the films Short Term 12 and The Glass Castle. It’s co-written by Andrew Lanham (Glass Castle) and Cretton. Gil Netter, Asher Goldstein, and Jordan serve as the film’s producers.
