According to Collider, Warner Bros. and Imagine Entertainment have chosen Skyscraper director Rawson Marshall Thurber to direct the long-in-the-works big screen adaptation of Spy vs. Spy.

Spy vs. Spy hails from the long-running comic series of the same name featured in Mad Magazine and created in 1961 by Antonio Prohias. The comic featured two spies, namely Black Spy and White Spy, who attempt to destroy one another in typical cartoon fashion, i.e. lots of booby traps. The series was adapted into a video game and an animated series.

The trade notes that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer had originally intended to develop the project as a vehicle for Howard to direct. The duo courted David Koepp to produce and oversee a screenplay alongside John Kamps, who he worked with on Premium Rush. Obviously, that project didn’t pan out, though Howard and Grazer will stay aboard as producers.

Thurber has worked on a number of projects with Dwayne Johnson, including Central Intelligence and the upcoming Red Notice. He also directed the comedies Dodgeball and Meet the Millers.
