Rogue Squadron No Longer Dated for 2023 Release Date

Disney has removed the Star Wars film Rogue Squadron from its release schedule, leaving the fate of the Patty Jenkins-directed film up in the air as of now.

The move comes following the film’s removal from Disney’s 2021 production schedule. Now its release date, which was set for December 22, 2023, has been removed as well. While the decision likely has to do with the fact that filming on the project didn’t start at its original time, the future of Rogue Squadron is left incredibly murky following this and last year’s reports that the film had been shelved.

According to a report from Puck’s Matthew Belloni last year, Jenkins and Lucasfilm executives were unable to agree on a script for her planned Rogue Squadron film, with Jenkins reportedly having moved on to other projects she has planned, including the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 3 at Warner Bros.

Currently, it’s unknown whether the film will ever see the light of day, as no official confirmation of the film’s cancellation has ever been acknowledged.

The Star Wars film, should it ever release, will mark the first feature film in the long-running franchise to be led by a female director. Patty Jenkins has been developing the project with Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying). The story is set to introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.
