According to Deadline, American Horror Story alum Taissa Farmiga is officially returning to The Conjuring universe to reprise her role as Sister Irene in New Line Cinema’s long-in-development The Nun 2. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 8, 2023.

In the 2018 film, Farmiga was the lead star alongside Demian Bichir. For the upcoming sequel, it’s unclear as to whether or not she will once again serve a lead role. Apart from her, it has also been recently confirmed that Euphoria actress Storm Reid has joined the long-awaited horror drama.
The Nun 2 will be directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, based on Akela Cooper’s latest draft. Further details about the untitled horror sequel’s plot and characters are still under wraps.
The film is produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, with Gary Dauberman and Michael Clear serving as executive producers.

The Nun starred Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons. The film was a box office hit with a worldwide gross of over $360 million, making it the highest-grossing film of the franchise.
