Well known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, Chris Pine appears to now be heading for the DC Universe. Variety today reports that Pine is in negotiations to play Steve Trevor, the romantic interest of the titular Amazon, in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman.
Trevor debuted in the comics right alongside Wonder Woman in 1942’s “All Star Comics” #8. Although the character has been rebooted several times over the years, the original version of Trevor was a US soldier whose plane crash lands on Paradise Island, exposing the secret civilization to the world.
The outlet also clarifies an earlier rumor that claimed Scott Eastwood would be playing the Trevor role. Although he reportedly considered reading for the role, the Gran Torino star ultimately took a completely different role for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
Gal Gadot is attached to headline Wonder Woman, to be directed by Monster‘s Patty Jenkins. The character is planned to make her first cinematic appearance, however, in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She may even make additional appearances across DC’s new cinematic universe before her solo film sees release on June 23, 2017. It’s pretty much a guarantee, too, that Wonder Woman is also going to play an important role in Justice League Part One, hitting theaters on November 10, 2017.
