Akiva Goldsman is heading over to Paramount and will take on Rainbow Six, Ologies and Avengelyne
Writer/producer/director Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) has taken his Weed Road banner to Paramount Pictures with a two-year, first-look deal, according to Deadline. He’s reportedly set to produce franchises, adapt a series of young adult books, and direct a feature version of Deadpool creator creator Rob Liefeld’s comic Avengelyne.
One of the new projects Akiva Goldsman is set to take on is an adaptation of Tom Clancy’s bestselling 1999 novel “Rainbow Six,” which he would produce. The story is set around John Clark, a character that was introduced in Clancy’s Jack Ryan series. The script will be adapted by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (the Beverly Hills Cop reboot). “Rainbow Six” is the story of ex-Navy SEAL Clark who is named the head of an international task force to combat terrorism. There have reportedly been discussions with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds about playing the lead role.
John Clark has been seen on the big screen before. He was played by Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger and by Liev Schreiber in The Sum of All Fears. The Jack Ryan series will next be appearing in TV form in a series on Netflix starring John Krasinski. The film would be followed by the origin story Without Remorse, which was published as a novel in 1993.
Akiva Goldsman is also set to take on a franchise featuring the YA Ologies series of books that include “Alienology,” “Dragonology,” “Monsterology,” “Vampireology” and more. The books are presented as a sort of encyclopedia of legends and are primarily edited and authored by Dugald Steer. “Dragonology” was on the New York Times children’s bestseller list for 76 weeks. Goldsman will set up a writers room for the series.
He is also set to direct Avengelyne, based on the comic by Liefeld about an angel who fights evil demons and monsters. She’s currently a fallen angel after an attempt to confront the devil in hell. She was stripped of her angel powers and only retains her angelic strength and blood that works as a weapon/miracle.
