The Tracking Board reports that Drew Goddard’s Bad Times at the El Royale has just gotten a brand new cast member with Fifty Shades series star Dakota Johnson officially signing on.
She joins a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers, Ghostbusters), Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, True Grit), Russell Crowe (The Nice Guys), Cynthia Erivo (the upcoming Widows), and Pacific Rim Uprising star Cailee Spaeny.
The secretive project hails from 20th Century Fox and has Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, The Martin, X-Force) directing from his own script. There are few details on the film, but the story is reportedly set in the 1960s at a run-down hotel near Lake Tahoe called the El Royale. It “centers on a cast of characters whose own shady agendas will violently collide.” Production on the film is set to begin very soon.
Johnson is perhaps best known for playing Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey film franchise, which has brought in nearly one billion at the global box office after just two films and has a third and final chapter on the way. Her other credits include The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and How to Be Single. She’s also set to star in the long in-development remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria later this year.
