Natalie Portman is in talks to replace Reese Witherspoon in Fox Searchlight’s Pale Blue Dot
Natalie Portman (Black Swan) is in talks to replace Reese Witherspoon (Wild) in the upcoming Fox Searchlight picture Pale Blue Dot, according to Variety. Witherspoon left the role last November because of a schedule conflict with Big Little Lies Season 2. She will still produce the film with Bruna Papandrea.
Pale Blue Dot will be directed by Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley. The script comes to us from Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi.
Named for the famous photograph of Earth taken by the Voyager 1 in 1990, Pale Blue Dot will follow a female astronaut who finds her very sense of reality coming undone after returning from an extended mission.
Natalie Portman is known for playing the role of Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and was nominated for an Academy Award for the 2004 film Closer. She won a Golden Globe for the role. Portman has starred in V for Vendetta, Goya’s Ghosts, The Other Boleyn Girl, Thor and Thor: The Dark World. She played the lead role in Black Swan, for which she won a Golden Globe as well as an Academy Award for Best Actress. She recently played First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the film Jackie, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She’ll next be seen in Paramount and Skydance Pictures’ Annihilation.
