Joe Wright to Direct The Woman in the Window

Variety reports that Joe Wright has been signed on to direct The Woman in the Window, a thriller adapted from a novel of the same name written by New York Times-bestselling author A.J. Finn.

Writing the screenplay is Tracy Letts, actor and playwright, who has won a Puitzer Prize for August, Osage County. Producing the movie is Scott Rudin and Eli Bush, with Fox 2000 as the production company behind the film.

The Woman in the Window tells the story of Dr. Anna Fox, a recluse in New York City who drinks her days away alone in her apartment, watching classic films and her neighbors. When the Russells move into the house across the way, Anna sees the ideal family and spies on them, only to witness a shocking event that changes her life.

Readers have showered the novel with praise, citing its page-turning, paranoia-inducing plot. It has enjoyed the top spot at the New York Times Bestseller list, and continues to sell since its launch in January.

Wright last directed the Winston Churchill biopic Darkest Hour, which earned critical and commercial acclaim, earning a Best Picture nomination and a Best Actor win for Gary Oldman at the 90th Academy Awards.
