In a surprise bit of news, Miramax CEO, Bill Block, announced that Academy-Award winner Matthew McConaughey has signed on for Guy Ritchie’s next film, Toff Guys, alongside Henry Golding and Kate Beckinsale.
“McConaughey as the inside outsider with Henry and Kate will make for a thrilling Guy Ritchie ride,” said CEO Bill Block.
Toff Guys will explore the collision between old money European wealth and the modern marijuana industrial complex with new gang entrants swarming. Ritchie’s signature visual cocktail will be served with an abundance of fun. Ritchie wrote the script with Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson.
Ritchie is currently in post-production on the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin starring Billy Magnussen, Will Smith, and Naomi Scott. His last film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, was a costly misfire that grossed just $148 million worldwide on a $175 million budget. Still, the director’s Sherlock Holmes films were sizable hits, while his early work, namely Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels remain minor classics.
McConaughey can next be seen in Steven Knight’s thriller Serenity co-starring Anne Hathaway and Diana Lane.
Beckinsale is prepping to shoot TV series The Widow, while Henry Golding can currently be seen in Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.
