The official trailer for Elevation Pictures’ forthcoming drama film American Woman has been released, featuring Golden Globe nominee Hong Chau and Sarah Gadon as their characters try to escape the violence caused by the SLA. Based on author Susan Choi’s 2003 novel of the same name, the film is expected to have its digital release sometime this year. Check out the video in the player below!

Inspired by the headline-dominating kidnapping of heiress Patty Hearst in 1974, this atmospheric drama is a fictionalized re-imagining of her time in hiding, from the perspective of Jenny, a political activist assigned to take care of her.

American Woman is led by Hong Chau (Downsizing, Watchmen) as Jenny Shimada and Sarah Gadon (True Detective, Enemy) as Pauline. It will also feature award-winning veteran actress Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) as Miss Dolly along with John Gallagher Jr. (The Miseducation of Cameron Post) as Juan, Lola Kirke (Mozart In The Jungle, Gemini) as Yvonne, and David Cubitt (Siren, Shut In) as Agent John Spivey.

American Woman is the feature directorial debut of The Romanoffs executive producer Semi Chellas, who also serves as the film’s writer. The film is produced by Chellas, Christina Piovesan and Noah Segal. The film had its world premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.
