Urban Cowboy is a 1980 romance western movie adapted from an Esquire article written by Aaron Latham. The story centers on the love-hate relationship between Buford Uan “Bud” Davis (Travolta) and Sissy (Debra Winger). The film is known for capturing the late 1970s and early 1980s popularity of country music.
The movie stars Oscar nominee and Golden Globe/Emmy winner John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, Saturday Night Fever, Get Shorty), Oscar nominee Debra Winger (Shadowlands, Terms of Endearment, An Officer and a Gentleman), Scott Glenn (The Hunter for Red October, The Silence of the Lambs, Castle Rock), Emmy nominee Barry Corbin (Moon Shot, Northern Exposure), and Madolyn Smith (2010, Funny Farm). Urban Cowboy was directed by Oscar nominee James Bridges (The China Syndrome, The Paper Chase) who co-wrote the screenplay along with Latham (Perfect, The Program).
