Rathalos Sends Fiery Attacks in New Monster Hunter Clip
Sony Pictures has released a brand new clip for Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming live-action film adaptation of Monster Hunter, giving us a preview of Rathalos’ ferocity as hunters try to fend off its fiery attacks. Set to debut in theaters on December 25, 2020, you can check out the video now in the player below!
In addition, the film is currently wrapped-up in controversy after China has decided to remove Monster Hunter from its cinemas due to a scene involving a racist Asian joke. The film’s producer Constantin Film has quickly issued a statement addressing the controversy, apologizing to the Chinese audience for the thoughtless line.
“[Constantin Films] sincerely apologizes to Chinese audiences for a line of dialogue contained in an early scene of Monster Hunter,” the studio said in a statement (via Deadline). “There was absolutely no intent to discriminate, insult or otherwise offend anyone of Chinese heritage. Constantin Film has listened to the concerns expressed by Chinese audiences and removed the line that has led to this inadvertent misunderstanding.”
Monster Hunter centers on the leader of a UN military team named Artemis, played by Jovovich, who is transported to another realm populated by monsters. There she meets the Hunter (Jaa), with the two teaming up to close a portal to prevent monsters from attacking earth. The movie will be a highly stylish big-screen adaptation of the video game.

The film adaptation will be led by Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil franchise) and Tony Jaa. It will also star Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Drive), T.I. Harris (Ant-Man and The Wasp), Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel, Rock of Ages), Meagan Good (Code Black), and Josh Helman (X-Men: Days of Future Past).
Monster Hunter is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. The film is a production by Sony Pictures, Constantin Film, and Impact Pictures with Anderson, Jeremy Bolt, Robert Kulzer, Martin Moszkowicz, and Dennis Berardi serving as producers.
