Based on a true story, The Mauritanian stars Jodie Foster (Inside Man), Tahar Rahim (A Prophet), Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), and Zachary Levi (Shazam!). The film hits digital on April 20, and Blu-Ray and DVD on May 11 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

The Mauritanian follows one man’s decades-long fight for freedom and his relentless pursuit for justice. The political thriller is based on The New York Times best-selling memoir Guantánamo Diary by Mohamedou Ould Slahi and has been hailed as one of the most important and timely films of the year. It follows the remarkable true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s fight for freedom after being imprisoned without charges for many years. Shocking truths are revealed as Slahi’s battle for justice goes on but he proves that the human spirit cannot be locked up.
Academy-award-winning actress Jodie Foster won a Golden Globe for her role as Nancy Hollander, Slahi’s tenacious defense attorney turned ally, in the film. Rahim garnered a Golden Globe nomination Best Actor in Motion Picture Drama. The film has also been nominated for five BAFTA Awards including Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Leading Actor.
