Universal Pictures has shared a new How to Train Your Dragon video for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the acclaimed animated fantasy franchise. The reboot is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 13, 2025.
“On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society,” reads the official synopsis. “With the fierce and ambitious Astrid and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.”

What happens in the How to Train Your Dragon video?
The video features director Dean DeBlois discussing the film’s universal story, and why he decided to adapt the animated franchise into live-action. In addition, the video also provides fans with a behind-the-scenes look at its main cast, including Mason Thames and Nico Parker, while also teasing the film’s action-packed sequences. It also shows Thames and Parker’s reactions to learning that they’d been cast as Hiccup and Astrid, respectively.
Based on Cressida Cowell’s children’s book series of the same name, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie is written, directed, and produced by Oscar nominee Dean DeBlois. It also stars Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, Browyn James as Ruffnut, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut and Rutth as Phlegma. Butler also played Hiccup’s Viking father in the animated franchise.
