Alex Murdaugh pleaded not guilty to the gruesome murders of his wife and son. The publicized trial for the alleged murder case began on January 25, 2023, and concluded on March 2. But, the authorities deemed him a person of interest.

According to NBC, during his trial, prosecutors argued that Alex Murdaugh killed his wife and son to prevent the exposure of his theft of millions of dollars. The motive behind the murders was his fear of the consequences of his illegal activities being discovered. By eliminating them, he hoped to divert attention from the missing money and maintain his reputation within the community.

The prosecutor highlighted Murdaugh‘s knowledge of criminal cases, suggesting that he carefully planned the murders to ensure they were at the family’s property on the night of June 7, 2021.

Alex Murdaugh found guilty and sentenced to life

Following the conclusion of closing arguments, the jury commenced deliberations in the trial of Murdaugh Murders. After three hours, he was pronounced guilty of murder in the tragic deaths of Margaret and Paul. He was convicted of two counts of weapon possession during a violent crime, which entails an additional five-year prison term. As a result of these convictions, Murdaugh received two consecutive life sentences for the murders.

As of March 2023, he is currently held in a maximum-security prison in South Carolina.
