Amanda Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were wrongfully convicted in Meredith Kercher’s 2007 murder in Italy. The duo spent four years in an Italian prison before getting their initial murder convictions acquitted in 2011, per People Magazine. However, they were tried and found guilty once again before Italy’s highest court overturned their convictions in 2015.
The outlet reported that Knox and Kercher were roommates when the latter was viciously stabbed to death on November 2, 2007. Authorities claimed she died of 47 stab wounds in the flat they shared as exchange students in Perugia. Back then, prosecutors had alleged that Knox helped her boyfriend, Sollecito, commit the crime in a supposed sex game.
Knox and Sollecito maintained innocence in one of the most sensational and controversial cases of recent times. A third individual named Rudy Guede was also convicted of the crime but was granted an early release in November 2021.

People Magazine reported that after her 2011 release, Amanda Knox returned to the US and is now a renowned journalist and activist. She first came under the spotlight when her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found murdered in their flat in Perugia. The latter died of multiple stab wounds and had also been sexually assaulted.
Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were primary suspects in the spectacular case that resulted in their convictions. Italy’s highest court acquitted both of all charges in 2011 at first and then a second time in March 2015. A third individual named Rudy Guede was also convicted in the case separately. According to CNN, Guede received a 16-year sentence but was let out on early release.
The Independent reported that recently, Italy’s highest court overturned a slander conviction against Amanda Knox, stemming from the same case. She had allegedly falsely implicated Congolese bar owner, Patrick Lumumba, in Meredith Kercher’s murder. This resulted in Lumumba’s wrongful imprisonment for ten days.
In October this year, the Court of Cassation in Rome accepted Knox’s appeal and overturned the slander conviction. The court also ordered a new trial at the Court of Appeal in Florence. “We are both victims of the violation of my human rights,” she wrote. The 36-year-old also cited “coercive pressure of the police”.
The outlet further stated that after Knox’s return to her home country, she married Christopher Robinson in 2020. The couple went on to have their first baby in 2021. Furthermore, earlier this year in August, the exoneree announced on Instagram that they are now expecting a second child.
