Rapper Tory Lanez, who received prison time for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, is now in jail with a possible release date in 2029. Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, received a 10-year sentence following a conviction on three felony counts. The encounter between Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion occurred in July 2020. This resulted in his conviction over two years later, in December 2022, and landed Lanez in prison the following year.

Tory Lanez is serving his prison sentence in the California Correctional Institution. While the rapper serves a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot, his wife, Raina Chassagne, filed for divorce in June 2024. People Magazine stated that news of couple’s split comes more than a year after their marriage. The former couple’s date of separation is June 1. They share a son.
Moreover, while the prison records don’t mention Tory Lanez’s release date, he will become eligible for parole in June 2029. NBC News reported that the shooting incident between Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion occurred in 2020. Lanez shot and injured Stallion in her feet after the pair attended a party at Kylie Jenner’s Los Angeles home on July 12.
According to People Magazine, the duo fought after leaving Jenner’s pool party, and the altercation escalated. Prosecutors claimed in court that they left their vehicle and stepped onto a sidewalk in Hollywood Hills. Stallion then heard Lanez shout, “Dance, b***h!” as she was trying to walk away, but the latter shot at her feet with a 9mm pistol. The bullets struck her five times.
Entertainment Tonight stated that the rapper dropped his album, Daystar, a few months later. In the album’s first track, he denied Stallion’s allegations, claiming the latter was trying to frame him. In October, Lanez faced official charges to which he pleaded not guilty.
Tory Lanez’s trial began in December 2022 and ended with a guilty verdict and a lengthy prison sentence. A jury found him guilty on multiple felony counts. These charges included assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
According to ABC News, Megan Thee Stallion issued a statement during Tory Lanez’s trial. Stallion claimed Lanez should “face the full consequences of his heinous actions and face justice.” She further stated how the rapper “not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma.”
The “Savage” singer added, “He [ Tory Lanez] also tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul.” She accused Lanez of lying to anybody who “would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media. He released music videos and songs to damage my character and continue his crusade.”
Los Angeles DA George Gascón also stated how the case highlights that “our society must do better for women.” After Tory Lanez’s prison sentencing in August 2023, Gascón praised Megan Thee Stallion “for her incredible bravery and vulnerability.” Gascón revealed the singer “underwent months of probing investigation and court appearances where she had to relive her trauma, and the public scrutiny that followed.”
