Dateline: Unforgettable will re-examine the brutal murder of Thad Reynolds that took place in July 2004. Titled “The Secret Life of the Homecoming Queen,” the episode will reveal details about the gruesome case and how an innocent man lost his life because of a love triangle. The episode will also shed light on how the investigators arrested the perpetrators in just four days and charged them with the slaying. It will air on Thursday, July 25, at 8 p.m. ET.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, authorities discovered the lifeless body of Thad Reynolds right outside his workplace in northwest Georgia. The outlet mentioned that the killer stabbed the victim 19 times. After police started investigating the murder, they made arrests just four days after finding the victim’s body. Authorities apprehended Reynolds’ wife, Michelle Reynolds, and Scott Harper for the killing. Investigators stated that Reynolds and Harper were having an affair, which is why they decided to kill Thad.

Police also noted that the duo used several means of communication to plot the murder, including telephone and messages. WFMY News reported, “The investigation has shown that both conspired to commit the murder by various means of communication, including personal contact, telephone, and computer-generated messages.” Four years later, in 2008, Harper pleaded guilty to the murder to avoid the death penalty and agreed to testify against Michelle Reynolds. He received a sentence of life imprisonment for murdering Thad Reynolds, per The Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

How did Thad Reynolds die and who killed him?

As mentioned above, Thad Reynolds died because of a stabbing. WBS-TV Atlanta noted that the killer stabbed him multiple times after he arrived at his workplace. According to The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Michelle Reynolds and Scott Harper attended the same church and had a romantic relationship. However, after Thad’s murder, police arrested the duo and charged them in the case. For four years, authorities continued investigating the case until Scott Harper took the plea deal and agreed to testify against Michelle Reynolds.

Per The Rome News Tribute, the jury selection in Michelle Reynolds’ trial was scheduled to begin in January 2010. But Reynolds never went to trial because she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter charges in the 2004 murder case. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported that she entered the plea two weeks before her trial. Correspondingly, the court sentenced her to 20 years in prison for Thad Reynolds’ slaying.
