Legends of Tomorrow season 4 episode 4 sends the team to summer camp in Maine in 1995. While watching a cheesy horror movie based on disappearances at the camp, Sarah and Ava are alerted that the camp is the site of a magical anomaly. Leaving Zari and Mick to watch Charlie, who they captured in the previous episode, Sarah, Ava, Ray, and Constantine head for camp.
Camp Ogawa
Ray is thrilled to be at camp, his excitement matched only by the camp’s head counselor, Chad, who gives the team a tour. Sarah, too, is thrilled to be at camp, both to protect the campers and to give them an experience that matches the best of her camp memories. Ray and Sarah’s approach to finding the creature abducting campers runs counter to Constantine’s and Ava’s.
Constantine doesn’t care at all about the camp experience. He just wants to catch the monster and get out of 1995. Ava never had a childhood, being a clone grown in a lab, and her disciplinarian approach causes the campers to rebel against her. The girls from Ava and Sarah’s cabin play a trick on Ava, upending her into the lake.
Prison Tales
Aboard the Waverider, Charlie tricks Zari and switches places with her, getting free run of the ship until Mick catches Charlie and puts her back. Mick and Charlie bond, comparing stories of their times in the different prisons they served time in. Mick tells her that he had to trust someone–Snart–in order to make it through. Charlie says that she had to use her shape-shifting ability to survive, never staying in one form in one place long enough to trust anyone.
When the team discovers that they are up against a shtriga, a vampire witch who feeds off the essence of children, Charlie helps the away team by telling them that though most shtrigas are ugly hags, the one they’re after is a handsome, younger man. For her help, Mick lets Charlie out of her cell. Charlie agrees to continue to aid the team as long as they don’t ever lock her back up again.
A Powerful Spell
Constantine gives Sarah a potion that turns Sarah and Ava into 12 year old girls, so they can protect the campers and act as bait to catch the shtriga. Meanwhile, Constantine and Ray head into the woods, eventually discovering the cabin where the shtriga keeps the missing kids in kennels so that he can return and drain them of their essences. The girls venture into the woods where Chad finds them and attempts to suck Ava’s essence. While Ray and Constantine return their essences to the kids, the girls fight and kill the shtriga before reverting to their adult forms.
One of the abducted campers doesn’t awaken. Determined not to lose another kid, Constantine gives the camper some of his own essence, saving the child. Aboard the Waverider, Gideon says that Constantine’s chances of survival are not high and getting worse by the minute. Ray believes that Nora Darhk is the only one who knows the right spell to save Constantine, but he doesn’t know when or where to find her.
