Netflix’s GLOW is back for a third season, where the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling took their canceled TV show to Las Vegas for a live stage show. In GLOW Season 3 Episode 1, a national tragedy darkened the opening of the Vegas show.
The Challenger
The GLOW ladies ate breakfast in their hotel rooms while they watched the local news. To promote the show, Debbie and Ruth were on live as their characters to comment on the Challenger launch. Ruth as Zoya made fun of the mission, not realizing the tragedy she was inadvertently commenting on. Debbie stopped the segment, but it was too late.
Sheila and Carmen tried to console Ruth. Russell called to tell her that he couldn’t make it. He was working overtime to help cover the tragedy.
The Show Must Go On
As producers of the show, Bash, Sam, and Debbie debated on postponing opening night by a few days. They were free from the constraints of TV. However, they asked Sandy, the entertainment director of the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino, who mistook Debbie for Bash’s wife. Sandy thought the show should go on as scheduled. She referenced a show she was a part of that continued the night after the MGM fire.
The cast ran through the show with their sadness and worry over the tragedy hanging over them. During the rehearsal, Ruth got stuck on the zipline as the fire alarm sounded. The hotel evacuated, but it was a false alarm. Sandy used it to reset the guests’ glum moods and handed out champagne and casino chips. She gave Debbie a rack of chips for the girls to gamble with. The GLOW ladies played craps, where they hit a hot streak.
Debbie asked Ruth to go outside with her. She pointed out the show’s name in lights. Debbie reminded Ruth to look where they are.
Opening Night
Bash was on the cover of a local magazine. Debbie felt she was overlooked as a producer of the show. She turned off Sam’s pep talk on the intercom to give her own speech to the girls. Ruth wanted a moment of silence, but Rhonda’s entrance with balloons disrupted it.
After the show, everyone dressed up for Bash’s after party. It had originally been space-themed, and Bash frantically tried to fix it. Sam and Ruth shared a drink in his hotel room before the party. All the ladies ended up in the elevator to enter the party together. Sam took the stairs.
