According to The Hollywood Reporter, Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games) and Liana Liberato (Light as a Feather) have just been cast in YouTube’s spinoff of the feature film Edge of Seventeen.
Fuhrman has a wide portfolio that includes the TV series Masters of Sex, and the aforementioned Hunger Games where she played the character Clove. Liberato has likewise appeared in a number of films and TV shows, notably House and the 2011 film Trespass with Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman.
Per the report, Fuhrman will take on a “version” of the Hailee Steinfeld role from the 2016 film, except named Mira; a character who is a “whip-smart underachiever” going through the daily trials and challenges of high school. The show will focus on Mira and her best friend Lou (Liberato) as they deal with the pressures of everyday life.
The script will be penned by Annabel Oakes (Transparent, Atypical), with Craig reprising her role as director for the pilot.
This marks another foray into original scripted content for YouTube. This year, the ubiquitous video site has a number of projects on deck, including Weird City, a science fiction comedy series from director Jordan Peele, the thriller Viper Club with Susan Sarandon and the comedy series Wayne from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Production on The Edge of Seventeen is slated to begin in January of next year.
