FBI possibly getting spinoff at CBS

Freshman Procedural FBI Possibly Getting Spinoff at CBS

The procedural crime drama FBI is already making a big impact on CBS. The series, which debuted last year, is possibly getting a spinoff, according to TVLine.

CBS’ plan is to air a ‘backdoor pilot’ for the new series as part of FBI’s regular season, which would center on the division of the FBI that deals with tracking and capturing the notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Law & Order showrunner Dick Wolf (who, naturally, created FBI) will co-write the pilot, titled FBI: Most Wanted with longtime Law & Order collaborator Rene Balcer. The two will also serve as executive producers with Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski.

FBI: Most Wanted has already received a series commitment from CBS, so it’s likely to happen. Though the network could end up deciding against it, which would just mean Universal, who are producing the series, would get paid for their efforts. CBS has already renewed FBI for another season, so it looks like the characters will be around for a bit either way.

However, considering that FBI is the network’s biggest hit this fall, it seems likely that they’ll continue to ride its success through at least one spinoff — with possibly many more to come.
