Creepshow reboot adds Jeffrey Combs, Kid Cudi and more to cast
Following the casting news of Tricia Helfer (Lucifer), David Arquette (Scream franchise) and Dana Gould (Stan Against Evil), Shudder has officially announced the additional cast members that are set to join in the upcoming horror anthology series Creepshow. Re-Animator star Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Davison (Longtime Companion) and DJ Qualls (Supernatural) have signed on to appear in the reboot along with Grammy Award-winning rappers Kid Cudi and Big Boi of the hip hop duo Outkast.
In addition, the streaming service have also revealed the synopses for all the twelve segments of the 6-episode debut season, teasing us on the upcoming horror stories. In an alphabetical order, the official synopses of the 12 stories are described as follows:
“All Hallows Eve,” written by Bruce Jones and directed by John Harrison: Even then they’re a little too old, this group of friends still want to trick-or-treat but getting candy isn’t all they are looking for.
“Bad Wolf Down,” written and directed by Rob Schrab: A group of American soldiers, trapped behind enemy lines during World War II, finds an unconventional way to even the odds.
“By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain,” adapted by Jason Ciaramella from a story by Joe Hill and directed by Tom Savini: Her dad died looking for the monster living at the bottom of Lake Champlain, and now, will she?
“The Companion,” adapted by Matt Venne from a story by Joe R. Lansdale, Kasey Lansdale & Keith Lansdale, and directed by Dave Bruckner: A young boy, bullied by his older brother, sneaks into an abandoned farm that is protected by a supernatural force.
“The Finger,” written by David J. Schow and directed by Greg Nicotero: An unhappy man discovers a severed, inhuman appendage on the street and brings it home, where it grows into a loyal companion with some deadly quirks.
“Gray Matter,” adapted by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi from a story by Stephen King and directed by Greg Nicotero: Doc and Chief, two old-timers in a small, dying town, brave a storm to check on Richie, an alcoholic single father, after encountering his terrified son at the local convenience store. The story, first published in 1973, is part of King’s best-selling 1978 collection, Night Shift.
“The House of the Head,” written by Josh Malerman (Bird Box) and directed by John Harrison: Evie’s discovers her new dollhouse might be haunted.
“Lydia Layne’s Better Half,” adapted by John Harrison from a story written by John Harrison & Greg Nicotero, and directed by Roxanne Benjamin (Body at Brighton Rock): A powerful woman denies a promotion to her protégée and lover but fails to anticipate the fallout.
“The Man in the Suitcase,” written by Christopher Buehlman and directed by Dave Bruckner (The Ritual): A college student brings the wrong bag home from the airport only to find a pretzeled man trapped inside, afflicted by a strange condition that turns his pain into gold.
“Night of the Paw,” written by John Esposito and directed by John Harrison: A lonely mortician finds company in the ultimate ‘be careful what you wish for’ story.
“Skincrawlers,” written by Paul Dini & Stephen Langford, and directed by Roxanne Benjamin: A man considers a miraculous new treatment for weight loss that turns out to have unexpected complications.
“Times is Tough in Musky Holler,” directed by John Harrison which was based on the shorty story by writers John Skipp and Dori Miller: Leaders who once controlled a town through fear and intimidation get a taste of their own medicine.

Original Creepshow star Adrianne Barbeau will return to the Shudder re-telling, along with Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) and Tobin Bell (Saw) for the series’ first episode titled “Gray Matter,” based on the 1973 story by Stephen King.
In addition to the new cast members, it also has been announced that one of the episodes will be directed by Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead), well-known for his special effects work on the original film. He will helm an episode based on Joe Hill’s short story “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain” which centers around two friends who unexpectedly finds a dead plesiosaur on the beach.
DJ Qualls will be starring in the “The Finger”, an episode written by award-winning horror novelist David J. Schow (The Crow) and directed by series showrunner Greg Nicotero.
Combs and Kid Cudi will star in an episode titled “Bad Wolf Down,” written and directed by Rob Schrab. While Bruce Davison will appear in writer John Esposito’s episode titled “Night of the Paw” will Big Boi set to feature in “The Man in the Suitcase” episode which was directed by Dave Bruckner (The Ritual) from a script written by Christopher Buehlman.

The TV series will be an anthology of original stories, each made by a different director, with the series scheduled to kickoff on Shudder in 2019. Nicotero’s KNB EFX Group will create the creature and makeup effects on the show, which will be produced by The Cartel with Monster Agency Productions, Taurus Entertainment, and Striker Entertainment.
The original 1982 Creepshow was directed by George A. Romero from a screenplay by Stephen King that paid tribute to the EC horror comics (ala “Tales From the Crypt”) of the 1950’s. The film featured stars such as Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson and Ed Harris, and grossed $21 million at the box office. It was followed by a sequel in 1987, directed by the first film’s cinematographer Michael Gornick from a screenplay by Romero, once again based on short stories by King, grossing $14 million.
