Two-time Emmy winner Dan Harmon has ratcheted up the laughs with NBC’s Community and Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty and now he’s diving back into the animated world for a new comedy series that Fox has given a full series commitment as part of a new first-look deal with the network, according to Deadline.

The new broadcast network-only exclusive deal with the 47-year-old writer and comedian will see Harmon create and develop a comedy series planned to premiere on Fox in spring 2022, with Fox Entertainment set to produce the series while Fox-owned Bento Box Entertainment will act as the animation studio.
The new deal and series come as the network looks to continue its major push into more adult animated fare after seeing their roster rely on the long-running The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers. Their schedule now includes seven series with more mature-leaning content including Bless the Harts, Duncanville, and the upcoming Housebroken and The Great North.
“Before joining the network ranks, I was an independent producer who had the opportunity to work with Dan on one of my very first projects,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement. “His singular voice, tenor and conviction to always deliver the unexpected in the stories he tells, let me know right away that he was a special talent. As one of the most prolific creators working in the business today – and as Fox’s animation brand continues to grow and evolve, with the support and guidance of [Fox Entertainment CEO] Charlie Collier – there’s no better creative partner to have than Dan Harmon.”

Harmon first rose to stardom in the late aughts on the small screen as co-creator and writer of The Sarah Silverman Program and creator, executive producer and majority showrunner on NBC’s Community, which ran for six Emmy-nominated seasons from 2009-2015. He would go on to co-create Rick and Morty with Justin Roiland for Adult Swim, which became one of the biggest adult animated comedy series of the last decade, with its third season breaking ratings records and winning an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. It recently finished its fourth season, part of a major 70-episode order from the WarnerMedia network.
