Netflix Announces Stranger Things Animated Series

Netflix has announced that it has ordered an animated series set within the Stranger Things universe.

Currently, plot details for the series are unknown, but according to Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer (via The Hollywood Reporter), the series is said to be in the same vein as “Saturday morning cartoons,” similar to shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, and Masters of the Universe.

As of now, it’s unclear whether or not any of the cast of the live-action series will be involved in the making of the animated series, however.

The Stranger Things animated show will be produced by Sydney-based animation studio Flying Bark and will see The Duffer brothers executive produce the project alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. In a statement on the move, the Duffers said it had always been a dream to make an animated series, and that the scripts and artwork for the series are both “incredible.”

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” said the Duffer brothers in a statement. “We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues …”

Stranger Things is set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. When a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one strange little girl.
