Robert Kirkman commented on the decision to split Invincible Season 2 into two parts, telling Collider that the realities of production played a factor in the decision: “It’s a little bit of the production process just because ramping things up has taken a lot longer than we thought.”
The first four episodes of Invincible Season 2 will premiere November 3 on Prime Video, with the remaining four expected to arrive early in 2024. Kirkman explained that there is a narrative release for the split as well, comparing Invincible to The Walking Dead (which Kirkman also created).
“But also this is something that we’ve done with every season of The Walking Dead, and I think narratively, it’s kind of cool to have that pause to digest what you’ve just experienced,” Kirkman said. “And when you see Episode 4 of Season 2, you may need a break. It’s a big episode. It’s definitely a mid-season finale kind of episode.”
Kirkman went on to note that the holidays were considered when making the call to split Invincible’s second installment: “And with everything going on in that time of year with, you know, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and a lot of family time, I think a lot of shows get lost in the shuffle there. So I think it’s good to take a pause and narratively, it’s gonna make things hit a little bit harder. People will know what I’m talking about when the season launches.”
What’s Coming in Invincible Season 2?
“Invincible is an hour-long, adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons),” per the logline. “But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.”
Invincible Season 2, which will pick up right after the end of the first installment, welcomes new voice actors such as Tatiana Maslany, Daveed Diggs, Cliff Curtis, Calista Flockhart, Scoot McNairy, Lea Thompson, Jay Pharoah, Ella Purnell, Tim Robinson, Rhea Seehorn, Paul F. Tompkins, Shantel VanSanten, Peter Cullen, and Ben Schwartz. Sterling K. Brown, meanwhile, voices the villainous Angstrom Levy.
