CBS has cancelled the Stephen King adaptation Under the Dome
Life Under the Dome will conclude at the end of the currently airing third season. CBS has announced that the show’s final episode will air Thursday, September 10 at 10:00pm ET/PT.
Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, Under the Dome tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. This season, Emmy Award winner Marg Helgenberger will guest star in an extended story arc, beginning with the premiere episode, as the town’s inhabitants figure out the Dome’s purpose and what it wants from them.
“Two years ago, ‘Under the Dome’ broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world,” says CBS Entertainment Chair Nina Tassler. “‘Dome’s’ event storytelling and multiplatform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of ‘Extant’ and ‘Zoo.’ We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”
Under the Dome’s final episode, “The Enemy Within,” will be the series’ 39th overall. It was written by Neal Baer & Tim Schlattmann and directed by Peter Leto.
Under the Dome is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Amblin Television. Steven Spielberg, Neal Baer, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider and Brian K. Vaughan are also executive producers.
