Damien Chazelle’s new drama has been given a straight-to-series order from Apple
A brand new drama from Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Whiplash) has been given a straight-to-series order from Apple, according to Variety. There is no information about the plot at this time, but Chazelle will reportedly write and direct all the episodes in the series. Chazelle will executive produce along with Jordan Horowitz through his Original Headquarters and Automatik Entertainment’s Fred Berger. The studio for the Apple series is Media Rights Capital.
Chazelle wrote and directed the short film Whiplash in 2013 after that script made the Black List. He then went on to write the full-length version and direct the film, which starred Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons and Paul Reiser. In addition to its wins, Whiplash was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture. He wrote and directed La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. It received a record-tying 14 Academy Award nominations. It was also famously announced as the winner of Best Picture, due to the wrong envelope being given to announcer Warren Beatty. The envelope was a duplicate of the one announcing Emma Stone’s Best Actress win. Moonlight actually won Best Picture for 2016.
Before that, Chazelle had a script on the Black List (the industry list of the best unmade films) called The Claim that is in development as a film. He will executive produce and direct several episodes of the musical drama series The Eddy for Netflix as well.
