Netlfix has announced that production has officially started for their first Dutch original series titled Ares. Created by the production company Pupkin, the 8-episode series will be co-directed by Giancarlo Sanchez and Michiel ten Horn. Ares is scheduled to debut sometime this year, exclusively on Netflix.
Set in the heart of Amsterdam, the series will follow the story of best friends Rosa and Jacob as they enter the world of Ares, a secret student society full of wealth and power. But slowly, they will start to realize that they’ve entered a demonic place, built on secrets from The Netherlands’ past. A place where true power comes at a terrible price.

It stars Jade Olieberg, Tobias Kersloot, Lisa Smit, Robin Boissevain, Frieda Barnhard and Rifka Lodeizen along with Roos Dickmann, Jip van den Dool, Steef de Bot, Janni Goslinga, Dennis Rudge, Minne Koole, Jennifer Welts and Florence Vos Weeda.
The series is created and produced by Pieter Kuijpers along with Sander van Meurs from a script written by Winchester McFly (Bankier van het Verzet, Lois). The writing team is also consists of Michael Leendertse, Thomas van der Ree, Joost Reijmers, Matthijs Bockting, Pieter van den Berg and Sarah Offringa. Emma Kuijpers is Junior Consultant and Michael Leendertse (The Spiral, Van God Los, Smeris) will served as the series’ showrunner.

Pupkin is an Amsterdam based independent production company, creating challenging films and TV-series, with a track record creating children’s drama, series for young adults and families. Pupkin is well known for its true-crime drama. Recent titles are Taart (“Penguins and Pastry”), Aanmodderfakker (“The Peter Pan Man”), Smeris (“Force”), Van God Los (“The Godless”) and Riphagen.
