“Rejected by his family and the Evangelical religious community known as ‘The Barum Brethren,’ Matthew Venn (Aldridge) walked away from his hometown of North Devon twenty years ago,” reads the official series synopsis. “Now a detective, he returns to the small and deceptively sleepy community with his husband, Jonathan, both to mourn his father (at a distance) and take charge of his first major murder case. Although the more Venn investigates, the more he finds his worlds colliding as he’s slowly drawn back into the same web he tried to escape decades earlier.”
