Lethal Weapon‘s on set turmoil nearly torpedoed its chances for a third season on Fox. However, the series is moving forward with Seann William Scott replacing Clayne Crawford as the new co-star opposite Damon Wayans. Now, a new Lethal Weapon season 3 promo has given Scott’s character the spotlight as he joins the LAPD.
Within the clip, we see Scott’s Detective William Cole share a few beers with Wayans’ Detective Roger Murtaugh. Murtaugh tells Cole that he takes “this partnership thing very seriously.” From there, we witness Cole and Murtaugh on the top of an out-of-control truck as they deal with it in true Lethal Weapon fashion.

Wayans and Crawford’s tension became public last spring when reports became big news in Hollywood. Crawford’s issues weren’t limited to his bad relationship with Wayans, which is why his deal wasn’t renewed. Even so, Warner Bros. scrambled to cast Scott before Fox ultimately renewed the series. The second season finale actually gave the show a way to write out Crawford’s Martin Riggs. In the closing moments of the finale, Riggs was shot by his younger brother and left to die. Presumably the third season will deal with the fall out of Riggs’ murder while integrating Cole into the cast.
