The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that fan favorite Vertigo series Fables is on its way to the big screen. A Royal Affair director Nikolaj Arcel is now attached to helm the project based on the Bill Willingham series. Screenwriter Jeremy Slater (writer behind the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot) has been brought on to write the film. David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films will produce.
Two other attempts have been made to adapt Fables into another medium, but both were halted in development before production could begin.
Fables imagines that all the characters from the worlds most beloved storybooks are real – real, and living among us, with all of their powers intact. From Snow White and the Big Bad Wolf, to Goldilocks and Little Boy Blue, these beloved characters are alive and well – but theyve been exiled from the land of fairy tales. Escaping the mysterious Adversary, they have relocated to a magically camouflaged New York City neighborhood known as Fabletown. To survive in the mundane world, the Fables will have to fight for their happily ever after.
A Fables video game will also debut this summer from Telltale games titled The Wolf Among Us.
