As promised, Telltale Games has released a new trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2. And to accompany the new footage, Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie and Co-Founder of AdHoc Studio Nick Herman sat down The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley to talk more about this anticipated sequel coming out in 2023.

The trailer shows a faithful look to the first season from 2013, but with smoother animation. It’s also now in a new engine this time around: the ubiquitous Unreal engine, which, according to Ottilie, “takes a lot of heavy lifting off [Telltale’s] shoulders.” The short clip shows returning protagonist Bigby in anger management as he recalls going to a shady motel to track down some wanted character. Of course, it doesn’t go off without an explosive encounter with some familiar faces from various well-known fables.
Adam Harrington and Erin Yvette were also spoke about returning to roles for Bigby and Snow White, respectively. Bufkin, the monkey librarian, will also be coming back and will join the cast with some new characters. The Tin Man and Scarecrow (and likely Dorothy, too) from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz can also be seen in the trailer and are among some of those new faces.
It will also still be episodic with five episodes and take place six months after the first season, but will still be a prequel to the comics. Bigby has been suspended from his role as sheriff of Fabletown. Snow White’s new role as mayor of Fabletown has led to some tension between the two, which causes him to work outside of Fabletown and take up other jobs.

As for gameplay, Herman stated that the studio has more opportunities, but the game will still be “rooted in its foundation,” meaning players can likely still expect dialogue choices. But there will “definitely be some additions.”
And while the episodic nature might cause some concern among fans who don’t like waiting, Ottilie said that all five episodes will be done by the time the first one comes out, meaning players can expect a “regular cadence” of releases. That cadence, however, was not spelled out.
Ottilie also spoke about how Telltale is simultaneously making The Expanse. He said that Telltale and AdHoc are developing The Wolf Among Us 2 while Telltale and Deck Nine Games, a studio known for Life is Strange: Before the Storm and True Colors, will be working on The Expanse.
