On the heels of today’s announcement that Andy Serkis is in talks to play Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Deadline brings word that Colin Farrell is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to portray Penguin in the upcoming feature starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Farrell and Serkis would join a cast that also includes Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon.
The Penguin was previously played by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 1992. Burgess Meredith also played the character in the 1960s television series and was most recently portrayed by Robin Lord Taylor as a young Oswald Cobblepot in the series Gotham.

Reeves will direct the Warner Bros. Pictures film, and also co-wrote the screenplay alongside writer Mattson Tomlin. Reeves is producing alongside Dylan Clark. Michael E. Uslan will serve as executive producer.
The Batman will begin production in January 2020 in the UK. The movie is scheduled to release on June 25, 2021.
