Great British Bake Off production delayed amidst pandemic concerns

Shut down your ovens, Great British Bake Off viewers, as no new recipes will be heading your way anytime soon as Love Productions has announced it will be delaying filming on the upcoming 11th season amidst concerns of the coronavirus pandemic in the UK, according to Deadline.

The Channel 4 series, which streams internationally via Netflix, was set to begin production in April at the iconic tent in Welford Park in Newbury, but in looking to ensure the safety of its hosts, presenters, bakers and crew members.

We continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of Public Health England and we will delay filming on Bake Off until it is safe to proceed,” a Love Productions spokeswoman said in a statement.

There has been no current word on when production is expected to resume, or if it will cause a delay in the premiere of the 11th season, as the series generally films from April to July and Channel 4 will debut the season on the final Tuesday in August.

The Sky-owned production will see Matt Lucas (BridesmaidsLittle Britain) take over presenting duties from Sandi Toksvig, with the 46-year-old comic recently telling BBC Radio 2 that he suspected production would only be “a bit delayed,” expecting it to resume within a few weeks rather than a few months.
