Why Quarterback Season 2 Has Trouble Finding a Star

Quarterback Season 2 is having trouble finding a main star despite the show’s success on Netflix, according to executive producer Peyton Manning. In recent comments to The Hollywood Reporter, Manning said: “I’d love for someone to call us back and say, ‘I want to do it.’ I had three starting quarterbacks tell me no yesterday, so I’m swallowing my pride.”

Quarterback Season 2’s Casting Troubles, Explained

Manning, a two-time Super Bowl champion, shared his perspective on why some NFL players might be reluctant to participate: “I think maybe some guys are thinking that it is going to be a distraction, even though I told a couple of them, ‘I guarantee you’ll win the Super Bowl like Mahomes if you do it.’”

“Quarterback is a new Netflix sports series that takes a unique look at each season, told through the lens of NFL quarterbacks,” according to the official synopsis. “For the first time ever, the NFL allowed quarterbacks to be mic’d up for every single game of a season. The series features exclusive, unprecedented access to Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota from the beginning of the 2022 season to its conclusion, following them on and off the field, from inside the huddle with teammates to inside their homes with their families.”

The eight-episode series, which is already renewed for Season 2, “features behind-the-scenes of the biggest moments of the season, as Mahomes set an NFL record for total offense on his way to winning the league and Super Bowl MVP awards; Cousins engineered the greatest comeback in NFL history and led the Minnesota Vikings to an NFC North Division title; and Mariota took over as the starting quarterback with the Atlanta Falcons.”

Quarterback marks the first partnership between Netflix and the NFL. It’s produced bt NFL Films, Omaha Productions, and 2PM Productions. Executive producers include Manning and Jamie Horowitz for Omaha Productions; Keith Cossrow, Patrick Kelleher, Ross Ketover, and Hans Schroeder for NFL Films.
