Dunki Box Office Collection Day 1: Shah Rukh Khan’s Movie Earns $3 Million, Low Opening Than Jawan

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film Dunki‘s box-office collection on day 1 is only $3.3 million. The first-time collaboration between Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani has been lauded as one of the blockbuster films of 2023. However, the opening box-office collection says otherwise. Additionally, the film has received mixed reviews, setting it apart from the roaring success of Shah Rukh’s earlier hits this year.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki box office collection to pick up on weekend

Dunki marks Shah Rukh Khan’s third film this year, following the blockbuster successes of Pathaan and Jawan. However, the $3 million opening of Dunki pales in comparison to the stellar performances of the first two SRK’s movies of 2023. After all, Pathaan raked in a massive $6.2 million on its opening day, while Jawan surpassed it with $9.8 million.

Irrespective of these comparative numbers, Dunki still bagged the title of being the seventh-biggest opener of the year. It outshined other releases, such as Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, and Dream Girl 2.

With an overall occupancy of 29.94% on Thursday, Dunki faces a tough challenge from Prashanth Neel’s multilingual release Salaar on Friday. The film’s performance is commendable given its mid-week non-holiday release and the inherent challenge of not being a massy genre film. Furthermore, Prabhas’ Salaar is expected to surpass it and is set to make over $6.5 million on its opening day.

Dunki explores the themes of friendship, immigration, nostalgia for home, and love. It is described as a comedy-drama centered around an illegal immigration technique called donkey flight. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover.
