Update on Sami Zayn’s Match at WWE SummerSlam 2024

WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn has faced Gunther, Chad Gable, and Bronson Reed for the title. Zayn won the title at WWE WrestleMania 40 in a highly anticipated match against Gunther, who had held the Intercontinental Championship for 666 days. Many fans expected Gunther to win, but they were shocked when Zayn overcame the odds and defeated The Ring General at the grandest stage of them all.

Since his title win at WrestleMania 40, Sami Zayn has been a fighting champion on Raw. He has defended the title against Ludwig Kaiser, Chad Gable, Ilja Dragunov, and Bronson Reed. His first major test came at King & Queen of the Ring, where he defeated Chad Gable and Bronson Reed in a triple-threat match.

Chad Gable, who suffered back-to-back losses to Sami Zayn, received a singles match at the Clash at the Castle in Scotland. Despite coming close to winning the championship, Gable fell short. After his victory over Chad Gable, Sami Zayn faced his biggest challenger yet, Bron Breakker.

Bron Breakker, who arrived on the main roster earlier this year, has been causing creative havoc by brutally defeating all his opponents. At Money in the Bank, Sami Zayn defended his title against Breakker. Although many expected Breakker to win the title, Zayn once again defied the odds. Meanwhile, Breakker, who hasn’t taken the defeat lightly, continues to target Zayn.

The rivalry has also seen Ilja Dragunov enter the mix, with many fans speculating that WWE is planning a triple-threat match for the next premium live event, SummerSlam.

Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reports that while WWE has hinted at a triple-threat match for Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Championship, the current plan is for a one-on-one title defense against Bron Breakker.

Ilja Dragunov, who has been receiving significant fan support online, appears to have no current plans with WWE, despite his popularity as a former NXT Champion.
