Tomb Raider Anime Cast Adds Two Voice Actors

Square Enix made several announcements regarding the Tomb Raider series on Thursday, including new casting information for the upcoming anime series set to hit Netflix later this year.

In a new post on the series’ website, the company and Tomb Raider anime series showrunner Tasha Huo announced that Allen Maldonado has joined the cast as Zip, while Earl Baylon will join the series to voice Jonah Maiava. Maldonado (Project Power) is best known for his role as Curtis in the hit television series Black-ish and recently starred in Maya and the Three, while Baylon will once again be voicing Jonah, who he voiced in the Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider video games.

Based on Square Enix’s action-adventure video game franchise, the Tomb Raider anime was first announced earlier this year. It will be written and executive produced by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin). Set to pick up after the events of the celebrated reboot trilogy that concluded with 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the series will chart the globetrotting heroine’s latest and greatest adventure as she continues to explore new territory.

The new Netflix anime will be executive produced by dj2 Entertainment Founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), Stephan Bugaj, Howard Bliss, & Jacob Robinson for Tractor Pants.

Currently, MGM is developing a Tomb Raider sequel to 2018’s Alicia Vikander-led action film, with Lovecraft Country creator attached to helm and write the project. Despite its long development period, the Oscar-winning actress is still expected to reprise her leading role.
