The ongoing C-drama The Tale of Rose, starring Liu Yifei, released episode 14 on June 13, 2024. As seen in episode 1, Huang Yi Mei (Liu Yifei), the drama’s protagonist, has to deal with desperate men who make advances on her daily. However, episode 14 primarily focuses on Yi Mei’s broken relationship with her first love, Guo Dong.
It even shows Zhen Hua meeting Zhuang Guo Dong while on a business trip in Paris. The former feels that Yi Mei is still hung up on Guo Dong, which is why she hesitates to date anyone else. So, he takes matters into his own hands to get her closure.
After making small talk, Zhuang Guo Dong finally asks about Yi Mei. Zhen Hua reveals what she has been up to. Zhuang Guo Dong informs him that she has resigned from Cyan and intends to get her psychology degree from Fudan University. Moreover, Yi Mei remains single. Zhen Hua then reveals how the breakup has affected her and how the once bubbly girl barely talks to anyone now.
Zhen Hua urges Guo Dong to come back to Beijing. Although he knows that the two broke up because of the long distance, he wants him to make a compromise for his sister’s sake. He assures Guo Dong that he will find a better job in China and promises to convince Yi Mei to mend the broken relationship. However, he becomes disappointed when Guo Dong turns down his request, further clarifying that he will not sacrifice his career since he doesn’t want to end up like his father.

After returning to China, Zhen Hua visits Yi Mei. She refuses to hear anything about Guo Dong and reveals that she doesn’t hold any grudge against him for putting his career above her. Furthermore, she reveals that they were never on the same page. While Guo Dong values career achievements, she seeks emotional fulfillment. Since they both prioritize their own needs, she should be selfish for her sake. The development of his sister’s emotional maturity amazes Zhen Hua.
Yi Mei asks around at her workplace to see if anyone would accompany her to an art exhibit. She buys tickets to go with Guo Dong, but now they can’t be refunded. Fang Xie Wen volunteers to accompany her and insists on paying for his share.
The two bond while exploring the exhibition. While Yi Mei is an art enthusiast, Xie Wen barely knows anything. Yi Mei learns that he graduated from her university. Although Xie Wen remembers her from orientation, she is unable to recognize him. The latter then writes to her friend Su Geng Sheng, informing her about her daily life. She also tells her about her new friend Xie Wen, who reminds her of Su because of his OCD.
Yi Mei and Xie Wen’s friendship grows as time passes, but the two struggle with house-hunting in the city. Xie Wen takes a stray kitten that Yi Mei finds. She visits Xie Wen’s house every day after work to play with his new pet. She eventually moves into the room upstairs.
Since Xie Wen knows that Yi Mei struggles with money, he lies about the rent and tells her the price is much lower than the original rent. To pay her rent, Xie Wen sells his cycle. Meanwhile, their growing closeness starts to raise eyebrows from others.
