The Wonder Boy series continues to expand in the modern era with Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch later this month.
This is a full-scale remake of an action-adventure platformer called Monster World IV, originally only released in Japan on the Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis for those in North America). The original release was included in the Genesis Mini in all regions, but this will be the first time the game stands on its own on digital shelves. The remake releases for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on May 28 with a PC release arriving a month later on June 29.

Asha in Monster World is developed by Studio Artdink and will not be exactly as it was in 1994. Instead, it will be improved upon with enhanced visuals and refined gameplay in certain spots. It remains a 2D platformer but adds in cel-shaded 3D graphics similar to the last two remakes in the Wonder Boy franchise and its sister series Monster World.
Retail copies ($39.99 instead of $34.99) will include the full game in both a remastered state and the original 1994 16-bit release. Fans can also pre-order the game at Strictly Limited Games to get a boxed copy. The game comes in three editions, a limited $48.99 edition, the $120.99 collector’s edition that includes a world map and a soundtrack, and the Mega Collector’s Editon for $216.99. The final tier adds in a figurine, a pixel pin, and a vinyl sticker on top of the goodies in the collector’s edition.
