June is traditionally the biggest month in terms of gaming news, and that centers around the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo. Last year, the show was outright canceled, with many companies hosting their own showcases throughout the summer as a replacement. This year, the ESA (E3’s governing body) hopes to bring the industry back together with an app-based experience powered by Hovercast and plenty of live streams.
Detailed today via a press release, the E3 experience will be open to all as an app and website that wants to serve as your hub for gaming-related announcements. There will be virtual booths for each participating publisher with “special events, VOD content, and articles” about their new games.

The E3 website also promises “Lounges” for the event, which is defined as online gathering spots for E3 attendees. This is listed separately from Forums, a message board where people not familiar with ResetERA can get hype about announcements. There are no further details on what the Lounges entail, so perhaps the ESA will revive AOL chat rooms for a single week this Summer.
Finally, players can compete at E3 to click all the links and rise on the website leaderboards, which are designed to make fans “interact in as many ways as possible.”

All this is in addition to the announced E3 broadcast, which will be a multiday stream schedule featuring the press conferences that many fans at home know E3 for. These broadcasts, which will feature interactive polls and featured tweets, are to be hosted by eSports announcer Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, Jacki Jing, and Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller. The event is just one short month away, so more details are sure to be forthcoming.
