Since Ubisoft’s Rocksmith released for consoles and PC back in 2011, millions of users have picked up their guitar, connected the bundled cable, and did their best to try to learn how to play. An “updated” version (which didn’t really include any updates) was released in 2014 but since then, things have been quiet.
Today though, Ubisoft has announced the next generation of the product, in the form of Rocksmith+.

Rocksmith+ gives learners and experienced musicians the chance to hone their skills without the use of any extra equipment. For the first time, players will be able to use their mobile device as a microphone, rather than having to plug their axe into their console of choice. What this means, of course, is that Rocksmith+ allows for acoustic players to join the fun.
The new service will include a tablature view for more experienced strummers, chord charts for rhythm players, and bass tabs for those who like slapping the low frequencies.

Currently, it doesn’t look as if the service will be coming to consoles. A closed beta will be available in due course (although a timeframe has yet to be specified) on PC, and a standalone mobile app is on the way for Android devices. We assume iOS will be involved as well, but given Apple’s approach to app monetization, that certainly isn’t guaranteed. A wave of popular tracks will be available at launch – although none have been confirmed as yet – and Ubisoft claims that new tracks will be on the cards every week.
You can register for a chance at getting into the PC closed beta over on the official Rocksmith+ site.
