It was rumored and now it has come true. The Guardians of the Galaxy video game is a real thing, as Square Enix revealed in its E3 press conference. The game is coming on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 26, 2021.

As was detailed in an earlier report, Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal is making the game. Despite it naturally lending itself to co-op, it will be a single-player game in the third-person action adventure genre where players control Peter “Star-Lord” Quill. The other Guardians will make decisions and the player “will have to adapt” to them and react to their teammates. Deus Ex was always known for its branches and permutations so this could possibly be something along those lines.

According to the gameplay showcase in the conference, the game looks to have some sort of small dialogue choice system where players can choose who to side with and what to say at specific times. It seemed like this would have repercussions, as one choice had a Telltale-style pop up saying Rocket would remember what the player did. The gameplay consisted of melee action and ranged gunplay as well as tactical elements. Players can order the other Guardians around and do specific attacks.
