Fans of the legendary brawler Killer Instinct may have started to think that the franchise was on the verge of extinction given the lack of any movement around it in recent years. Speaking on the Dropped Frames podcast, Phil Spencer has offered up some hope for those poor souls, confirming that the title is very much on his mind.

“Matt [Booty – Head of Xbox Game Studios] and I have discussed KI many times and where we would like to go with it and it’s not out of our minds that – it might be out of our minds – but it’s in our hearts and in our minds that we want to continue to do something with KI,” said Spencer. “It’s about finding the right team and the right opportunity, but it’s not due to any lack of desire on our part that we’re not doing more with KI, because we love the franchise and the community response.”
First released in arcades back in 1994, the Killer Instinct franchise made a return after a 17-year hiatus alongside the Xbox One back in 2013 as a free-to-play title. Many new characters and updates were added in the subsequent years, but all has been quiet of late.

A new KI game has yet to be confirmed and may never be, but at least there’s some semblance of hope for those who love a bit of Fulgore and Sabrewulf tearing each other’s faces off, right?
