Guerrilla Shares Horizon Forbidden West PS4 Screenshots

The excitement around the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West continues to build. But while developer Guerrilla Games has mainly only shared footage from the PlayStation 5 version, the team has now decided to show off how the title looks on the last-generation consoles.

Taking to Twitter, Guerrilla Games shared four new images from the game that are all captured on the PlayStation 4 version of the game ahead of its February 18, 2022 launch. The four new images don’t highlight anything special, but are still nice to look at, especially when considering they were captured on older systems.

For fans, the screenshots are a bit of good news as far as the upcoming game is concerned. Of course, Sony has yet to show the game running on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro, which is where the game will truly be tested. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 (although it ran poorly on nearly everything at launch) and Control have suffered on the last generation of consoles and, when combined with the upgrades seen in other more functional cross-gen titles, the prospect of a new game running on old hardware might make some uneasy. However, Guerrilla has been consistently adamant that PS4 players won’t be neglected.

As players continue to find a hard time finding consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it seems as if Guerrilla Games is making sure that players on the PlayStation 4 aren’t deprived of a great time. Earlier this year, the company revealed that it had been developing and testing the game simultaneously on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, specifically because they wanted to give players on both consoles the best gameplay experience.

“We actually developed and tested the game simultaneously on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, because it’s very important to us as a studio to ensure PlayStation 4 players get an equally immersive experience,” said Guerrilla Games Lead Character Artist Bastien Ramisse in September. “With our knowledge from Horizon Zero Dawn, we knew that we still had some unexplored resources that could push the realism and quality of our character assets forward; it’s great to now be able to tap into that knowledge and experience for the sequel.”
