Dynasty Warriors Dev Wants to Make a Star Wars Game

Developer Omega Force is most known its Dynasty Warriors series where players carve through a ton of enemy, a genre also known as Musou. That pedigree has given the team the opportunity to take its expertise to other franchises, too. And according to Akihiro Suzuki, a director and producer for the series, he wants to tackle a franchise that many people hold dear around the world: Star Wars.

Suzuki spoke about this wish to JPgames. When asked about what series he would want to adapt into a Musou game, he said that a lot of IPs have come up within Omega Force, but he would personally want to go to a galaxy far, far away.

“Within the dev team, a lot of different IPs and works have been brought up,” he said. “This is solely my own opinion, but my own personal wish would be for a Star Wars crossover.”

Suzuki did not elaborate on his dream of making a Star Wars Musou. But this would just one of many franchises Omega Force has adapted. The studio has created Musou games with properties like Gundam, One Piece, Fire Emblem, PersonaThe Heroic Legend of ArslanBerserk, and, perhaps most bizarrely, The Legend of Zelda. It is a mix of anime, video game, and manga properties so jumping to film wouldn’t be too far of a stretch, even if it would be new territory for Omega Force.

Older Star Wars games occasionally ventured out of traditional genres, but the newer slate of titles has tend to be fairly palatable and from developers in North America or Europe. Star Wars: Battlefront and its sequel were both first-person shooters. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a third-person action game, as will likely be the case for its newly announced follow-up. Ubisoft Massive is making an open-world Star Wars game, as well. ILMxLAB developed the Vader Immortal VR games. However, Disney did enlist Japanese animation studios for Disney+’s Star Wars: Visions so, while somewhat improbable, there is at least some small precedent of Disney giving the franchise over to creators based in Japan.
