The incoming expansion is set to introduce three new warped versions of the monsters found in the game, including a Warped Ripper, Shredder, and Urchin, whose abilities were not spelled out. Alongside the new enemies, eight exclusive skins will be added into the game, as well as two new characters in the form of Sharice and Heng.

An all-new PvE activity, Ridden Hives, is also included, and will see players taking down the new enemies in the search of exclusive loot and rewards offered only in that mode. Finally, seven new legendary weapons, eight new character skins, 12 new weapon skins, new cards, and more will also be part of this first expansion.

The DLC will launch alongside the release of a free update set to hit Back 4 Blood as well, which will include the “No Hope” difficulty setting to give top tier players a bigger challenge to face off against. While the details have yet to be seen since Tunnels of Terror isn’t out yet, but Turtle Rock has stated that only one person in a party needs to own the DLC in order for the group to experience it. This likely applies to the modes and maps, but it’s not clear if it also carries over to the characters and other parts of the expansion, too. This is also just the first in three planned premium expansions, according to the roadmap.

Alongside these new details, Turtle Rock Studios also celebrated a major milestone for the game, with Back 4 Blood reaching over 10 million players.

“To achieve such a milestone in the short time since the launch of Back 4 Blood is a historic event for our studio and this franchise,” said Turtle Rock Studios President and General Manager Steve Goldstein in a statement. “As we look ahead, we’re excited to keep the momentum going with our upcoming expansion, ‘Tunnels of Terror,’ which will offer more cooperative content for fans to continue cleansing the world of the Ridden.”

Back 4 Blood came in at number 15 on the November 2021 NPD and did not reappear the following months. While this may seem low for a game that has hit 10 million players only a handful of months after releaase, many of those players likely caught the game on Game Pass since it launched on the popular subscription service.
